Scholarship for Humanities 2025
Introduction
Mount Lawley Senior High School aims to maximise the enjoyment of learning and achievement for all students within a compassionate and democratic school culture, encouraging them to be responsible, creative and engaged lifelong learners.
Michael Sutherland, OAM Scholarship for Humanities
Mr Michael Sutherland, OAM, the former MLA for Mount Lawley and the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly was the Deputy Lord Mayor of the City of Perth and a solicitor prior to entering State Parliament in 2008. Mr Sutherland was a teacher of Humanities in South Africa prior to studying law. He has a great interest in law, history and civics. He wishes to offer a scholarship in the area of humanities.
The scholarship is offered to a student entering Year 11 in 2025. To be awarded the Year 11 scholarship, a student must be enrolled in at least one senior secondary Humanities and Social Sciences Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) course.
The student awarded The scholarship will be expected to maintain high standards of behaviour, attend school regularly and achieve acceptable results.
Value of the Scholarship
The value of the scholarships is as follows:

The scholarship may be expended on course contributions or charges or on school uniform items (from the School's Uniform provider).
Selection Criteria
The criteria for selecting the winner of the scholarships is as follows:
- Academic Achievement, especially in Humanities and Social Sciences.
- Interest in Humanities and Social Sciences.
Families in financial need will be a consideration if students can not be separated on other issues.
Students applying for the scholarship are to submit the following:
- Application Form.
- Statement from the student addressing the selection criteria (maximum one typed page).
