Last week, the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) released the 2024 NAPLAN results. NAPLAN, The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy, is an annual assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 and tests students in four main areas:
The 2024 results showed that approximately one in three students were performing below literacy and numeracy benchmarks. Whilst the results were disappointing on a national scale, Western Australia performed the best of all the states with Mount Lawley Senior High School's results demonstrating the strong focus on literacy and numeracy at the school . According to Natasha Bita from The Australian, Mount Lawley's students "performed above or well above the national averagy in every testing domain last year".
