O'Connor Crowned 2016 House Debate Champions
This week has been inter-House Debate Week in the Senior School, with teams from each of the Houses contesting a series of lunchtime debates.
The preliminary debates saw Hackett unsuccessful in their quest to prove to O'Connor that "Cats serve no useful purpose".
Forrest then convinced Murdoch that "Crocs are comfortable and perfectly acceptable footwear for any occasion".
The two defeated teams argued for 3rd and 4th position on the topic " The Mount Lawley SHS logo should be brought into the modern age", with Murdoch, arguing the negative, taking the narrow victory.
By Friday the crowds had built for the final between the two dominant teams in our competition.
The topic was " An active social life should be an acceptable excuse for not handing in an assignment", with Forrest leading off for the affirmative.
An involved crowd and some interesting perspectives on the relative value of assignments v. social lives proved entertaining for the crowd, with O'Connor taking victory.
Congratulations to all of our House Debaters.
Given the success, this competition will surely become an annual staple.
The results put O'Connor squarely in the lead at the moment for the House Shield, as well as the Senior School House Championship.
The Middle School Championship has O'Connor in front of Hackett by one point, with Murdoch only 16 points further behind.
