Governor Opens Geoff Davis and Anita Chong Chinese Language Classroom
Her Excellency The Honourable Kerry Sanderson AO, Governor of Western Australia, and representatives from the Department of Education, Chinese Consul, Confucius Institute, Professional Associations, Chung Wah Association, previous students and special guests were invited to commemorate the long time services of Geoff Davis AM and Anita Chong OAM in the official ceremony marking the unveiling of a classroom for the teaching of Chinese.
James Chong and family represented Anita's contribution to the teaching of Chinese to generations of students and staff.
Geoff Davis introduced Chinese to the school over 30 years ago making Mount Lawley Senior High School the first school in the state to offer Chinese language studies.
Anita began teaching students at Mount Lawley in 1992 making the school the premier Chinese language studies school in the state.
Mount Lawley's first student tour organised by Geoff and Anita began in 1993 with a Chinese Sister School relationship established in 1999.
These tours which have ignited the passion in many a student and staff member continue to this day.
Both Geoff and Anita established both the state and national professional associations for the teaching of Chinese.
They were visionary in their perception of the importance of Chinese language studies in Australia.
