Later, he was announced as the champion of the 8 th Hanyuqiao Chinese Proficiency Competition for Secondary School Students (WA,NT,ACT,SA) in Adelaide.
This achievement qualified him to participate in the world final competition in Yunan, China, where he competed with 158 candidates from 81 countries.
After a two-week battle, William and his teammate won third prize for the group award.
As an individual, William was awarded a six month Confucius Institute Scholarship to study Chinese in China.
