Year 12 Politics & Law at the High Court
The Year 12 Politics and Law class had the chance to attend a special sitting of the High Court in Perth on Tuesday at the Commonwealth Law Courts.
The case concerned the question of the constitutional authority of the State to freeze the Australian assets of a company facing legal action in Singapore, and it was being heard before all seven Justices of the High Court.
The courtroom was packed with many barristers for the companies involved as well as other Australian State governments, who await the outcome with trepidation.
The class were able to follow the proceedings, and saw the Chief Justice French directing some tough questions to the barristers.
Their understanding of the constitution stood them in good stead for the day and will hopefully provide a useful example for their upcoming exams.
