Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial Service 2015
Each year Mount Lawley Senior High School conducts a service on behalf of the Ex-Prisoners of War Association.
Held at the memorial in Kings Park, the service is attended by a number of ex-POW's, their families and friends, as well as our student leaders from Years 7 to 12.
Several moving speeches spoke of the courageous suffering of prisoners of war, from the perspective of the POW's themselves, the RSL, our Principal, School Chaplain and a student representative who had just returned from ANZAC Day commemorations at Hellfire Pass on the Burma Railway.
The service was also the first opportunity we have had to use the new Bugle, presented to the school by the RSL, for Last Post.
As with every year, our students took the opportunity to speak with the POW's and their families about their experiences after the service, with this proving to be a very rewarding addition to the formal proceedings.
Our school with return to the Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial next year to honour and remember.
Lest we forget.
