Premier's ANZAC Student Tour to Gallipoli 2015
Earlier this week, Monroe (Year 12) arrived in Turkey as a part of the Premiers ANZAC Student Tour 2015.
For the past few days he has been walking the battlefields of Gallipoli and undertaking a history and cultural study tour focussing on the Gallipoli Peninsula, Canakkale and Istanbul.
"This tour has opened my eyes to the truth of Gallipoli"
Monroe, speaking online from Turkey today.
On Saturday, Monroe will join the Anzac Centenary commemorations at ANZAC Cove.
The Premier's ANZAC Student Tour is Monroe's first time visiting Turkey and he has been looking forward to representing Western Australia as a youth ambassador while learning more about the Gallipoli Campaign.
Monroe's great-great uncle, Private John William Burton, served with the 50th Battalion on the Western Front but died from wounds received in action.
His great uncle, Arthur Burton, enlisted during World War II and fought in the Battle of Tarakan which occurred as part of the liberation of Borneo in 1945.
