Girls Soccer Success
Playing in yesterday's curtain raiser to the World Cup, our Senior Girls Soccer Team defeated St Norberts College 2-0 yesterday.
In a strong first half performance, the girls dominated the play with strong tackling and a lot of pressure on the opposition.
We even managed a few spectacular turns and back heels, demonstrating that the girls are definitely improving their skills.
Our defensive line read the play well and did a magnificent job, with strong tackles and good clearances, but unfortunately we couldn't score.
Coming out after half time the other team stepped up their effort, and our girls rose to the challenge.
We had more shots on goal, and were awarded two penalties in quick succession, but were unable to convert both of them.
The effort continued and we were eventually rewarded with a beautiful long range goal from Chloe, soon followed by a run through two players and a massive shot from JD.
It was an excellent performance from everyone on the team, with all girls showing commitment, effort, enthusiasm and skill.
And it was great to see the game played in such a positive spirit
Having now won both of their matches, the senior girls are looking like strong contenders in their group.
Our Junior Girls have now had three games, unfortunately without a win, mostly due to unavailable players (it is hard to play when you have less players on the field).
They still have a few games to play, and we are recruiting well - we hope to see a resurgence as the term concludes. They have the makings of a strong team.
Well done to all of the girls.
Bring on the World Cup!
