Cadets Return from the South Coast
Congratulations to all of the Cadets on their return last week from our 'very excellent' Tree Camp.
We travelled south to the forrests of the Warren National Park near Pemberton, and then further south to the D'Entrecasteaux National Park and the coast near Walpole.
Along the way the Cadets were able to visit the Yeagarup Sand Dunes, climb the Bicentennial Tree, spend time on the Tree-Top Walkway and marvel at the enormous trees on the Ancient Empire Walk.
As part of our annual commitment to the region, we again cleaned up the two and a half kilometer stretch of sand at Mandalay Beach, removing 1,671 pieces of rubbish, ranging from small pieces of plastic the large pieces of lumber and water bottles which had travelled half of the world.
We managed to fit in a brilliant game of the Unit favourite, 'Spekkie Ball', and a Championship Game on the Front 9 holes of Camp Golf's spiritual home, Crystal Springs, where Zac and Andrew tied for the win (please note Zac, you didn't actually beat Andrew).
And we can't forget the annual damming of the creek for the MLSHS Bush Ranger Cadet Belly Flop Competition ... with entries in the Men's, Women's, Men's Doubles, Women's Double and Mixed Doubles producing some outsanding results.
We managed to fit in some 4WD'ing to visit some of the more secluded sights along the coast and finished the year with our farewell function for the departing Year 12's.
We only had 4 of them available, but after a feast of pizza cooked on our BBQ's we sat down and they reflected on their last 5 years with the Unit, shared their funny stories and the things they learnt about themselves.
It was a fabulous end to the trip.
Many thanks to the Instructors who made it all happen - Mr Lazarov, Ms Paterson, Mr Stille and Mr Armstrong - they are outstanding and capable people who work hard and enjoy the opportunity as much as the Cadets.
Thanks also to our hard working and fabulous Cadets.
At the start of next year we will welcome a lot more new ones ... we are looking forward to it.
