Rod Randall

Class of 1977

Environmental Science

After time in the army, Rod completed a Biology degree at W.A.I.T. in 1985. Working for the Agricultural Protection Board, his role was to assist farmers in managing pest and weed issues.

Working in the Weed Science section of the Agricultural Department, Rod was involved in creating a 'permitted' list of plants and developing procedures for plant importations. Largely in his own time, he developed 'A Global Compendium of Weeds' which is used around the world to identify issues in horticulture and flora management.

He is recognised internationally as an authority on weed science and his work has enabled government and industry to make informed decisions on which plant species to use and avoid in their operations.
