Lynette Chester

Class of 1964

Community Health Advocate

After her mother was diagnosed with dementia at the age of 57, Lynette set about to provide support and services for sufferers and carers. To start with they raised money through lamington drives and jumble sales, and the phone at her business ended up doing as much work for Alzheimers as it did for the business.

Lynette was a founding Board Member and former President of Alzheimers Australia WA in the 1980's and early 90's. She has held numerous roles nationally and is a founding member of the Dementia Australia Research Foundation. The Mary Chester Centre opened in 1993 following extensive fundraising and is named in honour of Lynette's mother.

Lynette continues to be a champion for awareness about dementia.
